Focusing on The New Positioning of Business Schools under the Background of Globalization---DUT FME Elite Business Schools Deans Forum was Held Successfully

On the morning of Oct. 31st, Deans Forum was held by Faculty of Management and Economics (FME) in the new building. This year, the forum invited leaders of global business schools and directors of international organizations. Taking the development of international business schools as the theme, the attendees had in-depth discussions on topics including development opportunities of business schools under the background of globalization, global business practices and the credibility building of business schools, and cooperative relationship between Chinese and western business schools.

Deans of elite business schools at home and abroad, the management faculty members of FME, teachers and students representatives were present at the forum. Mr. Tom Robinson, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of AACSB, was also invited to attend the forum. Mr. Joseph Alutto, president of DUT FME International Advisory Board (IAB) presided over the forum.

During the forum, one guest speaker and five business schools deans have given keynote speeches, among them were AACSB president and CEO Mr. Tom Robinson, dean and professor Bob O’Keefe from British Royal Holloway, University of London, dean and professor SU Jingqin from DUT FME, dean and professor Sanjay Gupta from Board Business School, Michigan State University, former dean and professor Jerry Courvisanos from business school of Federation University Australia; dean and professor Anil Makhija from Fisher Business School of Ohio State University.


Mr. Tom Robinson, president and CEO of AACSB, analyzed the challenges and opportunities confronted with business schools in today's global world, the globalization tendency of business education, the positioning of business schools in global markets and five factors that contribute to the development of business schools.

The dean and professor Bob O’Keefe from British Royal Holloway, University of London gave a keynote speech entitled What Universities Want for Business Schools, emphasizing on the relationship between universities and business schools, the status quo of business schools in the upper organizations, and then illustrated how to establish and develop the credibility of business schools.

Dean and professor SU Jingqin from DUT FME gave a keynote speech entitled The Forty Years of China’s Business School- Review & Evolution. The speech took the timeline as the node, stating the history and current situation of Chinese business schools development in the past forty years.


Under detailed elaboration given by Prof. SU, deans of foreign business schools have had a relatively complete understanding of the history, current situation, management system and development trend of Chinese business schools. Good communication plays a crucial role in promoting the further cooperation between Chinese and western business schools.

At the next stage of the forum, dean and professor Sanjay Gupta from Board Business School, Michigan State University discussed the opportunities and challenges for business schools in the era of digital economy. He elaborated on the impacts of the fourth revolution of science and technology on development of business schools, the potential strength of digital economy, data, and science and technology, and the challenges brought by the emergence of the new generation in the context of soft technology development.

Former dean and professor Jerry Courvisanos from business school of Federation University Australia first introduced the profound friendship and long-standing scientific research cooperation between Federation University Australia and DUT FME. Moreover, he stated current condition in faculties and researches, student exchanging activities and cooperative researches between the two schools, demonstrating the mutually benefits and common growth of the two business schools.

Dean and professor Anil Makhija from Fisher Business School of Ohio State University was the last speaker to give a keynote speech. The topic was entitled as Redesign of Full-Time MBA Program, OSU. Supported by data investigation and analysis, he explained the motivation for the innovation of Fisher Business School, analyzed the development process of the school to rebuild the development of degree programs, and provided new thoughts for the development of business schools.


Deans Forum is an important part of the 2018 DUT FME International Academic Exchanges Week, and a critical platform and linkage for the internationalization of business education. The 2018 DUT FME International Academic Exchanges Week will last until this Friday.
