The 2nd International Conference of Innovative Research in East-West Business was Held Successfully

From Oct. 29th to 30th, the 2nd International Conference of Innovative Research in East-West Business was held in room B211 of the new building of Faculty of Management and Economics (FME). The conference was held jointly by Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and University of Massachusetts (UMass). A dozen of renowned scholars from home and abroad were invited to deliver keynote speeches.



The first report was given by Prof. Kwok Kee Wei from National University of Singapore, entitling Comparing Competing Systems: An Extension of the Information Systems Continuance Mode. He emphasized that comparing competing system is an extension of the information system continuance mode. Three different comparing systems are applicable under different conditions, and appropriate comparing systems should be used specially according to different features of the research cases, so as to obtain the optimal results.



Next, CUI Miao, associate professor of FME Institute of Enterprise Management,  introduced two cases about Alibaba-- New Retails in Rural Areas and Contract Farming. She gave a report on Chinas Mass Entrepreneurship Policy and Implementation of Balanced Corporate Community Engagement Strategies: Alibabas Rural E-Commerce Development Case. She put forward two modes of enterprise community investment strategies and implementation process, namely complementary resource support and core resource development. It provides theoretical and practical references for enterprises in China to promote mass entrepreneurship as their own responsibilities and to accelerate core business development at the same time.



Then, associate professor Sisira Colombage from Federation University Australia gave a report on Green Bonds: A New Solution for Eco-friendly Investments. He stated that green bonds not only own constrained capacity and positive outcomes, but also provide eco-friendly solutions. The correct results can only be obtained through complete calculation of the system, and the setting of each index has a strict basis.



Following that, associate professor XIAO Guirong from FME Institute of Tourism and Environment Management gave a report on Mechanism Analysis of Environment Regulation Impacts on Green Growth -- A Perspective of Directed Technological Innovation. Based on the theory of green growth and relevant theories, this report focused on the influence of environmental regulation on green growth, and discussed how environmental regulation impacts economic activities and social welfares through directed technological innovation from the perspective of directed technological innovation.



Associate professor NISHIMURA YOICHIRO from Kanagawa University gave a report on The Structure of Transferring Ownership of Invention: An Outlook on Japan, introducing Japanese transferring system and characteristics of its development. He pointed out that enterprises have increased the application of inventions, thus the application of the invention can be developed in a better way.

Prof.Alan Love from Washington State University gave a report on Managing Service Effectiveness through Sales Force Compensation. He proposed that the principal-agent model was developed to study the impact of compensation contracts on service efficiency, employee costs and enterprises profitability. The results showed that even in high-risk situations, managers and agents share relatively higher effectiveness by increasing investment.



After that, associate professor LI Xianneng from FME Institute of System Engineering gave a report on Big Data Mining Based on Transafer Learning. He put forward that as a type of technology combing Computer Science, Chronology, Artificial Intelligence and Operational Research, data mining has been widely used in Management Science, Information System, Marketing Science and other fields. The report emphasized on introducing the concepts of transfer learning, starting from the researches on the similarities and relevance of data in different fields. It was stressed to study the technology of knowledge discovery, transferring and reusing related to data collections in the specific fields, and to explore the big data mining technology featured by low costs, high efficiency and high precision.



Moreover, Prof. Jerry Courvisanos from Federation University Australia gave a report on SDGs and Innovation: East-West Challenge in Globalized Knowledge and associate professor ZHAI Qingguo gave a lecture on Examining the Relationship Between Workplace Interpersonal Relationship and Knowledge Sharing: A Study of Academics in Chinese Universities; FENG Zhuo from FME gave a lecture on Mitigating Poverty through Solar Panel Adoption in Developing Economies; WANG Yueqi from FME gave a report on Managing External Knowledge Search: The Multiple and Contingent Roles of Absorptive Capacity; YU Miao released a report on The Role of the Lead Firm in Exploratory Projects: How Capabilities Enable Exploratory Innovation of Project Alliances; LI Yonggang from FME gave a report on Decision Making Approaches for Online Auction with a Buyout Option. Prof. ZHU Zhijie from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics gave a report on E-commerce Data Marketing in the Era of Digital Economy and Prof. LI Yu gave a report on Exploring the Role of Knowledge Power of Core Enterprises in the Knowledge Creation Capability of Industrial Clusters. All attendees have benefited a lot from the excellent academic sharing.


As an important activity of the 2018 International Academic Exchange Week held by DUT FME, this international academic conference had a well-arranged schedule and covered a wide range of topics. It is believed that the faculty members and students attending the conference could gain a lot at both theoretical and practical levels.
