讲座题目一：On Emerging Technologies and the Internet of Things
讲座人：1、Daniel Berg, PhD, NAE Distinguished Research Professor 2、James M. Tien, PhD, DEng (h.c.), NAE Distinguished Professor and Dean College of Engineering, University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida
Abstract. In this joint presentation, the critical parameters of emerging technologies will be introduced. This will lead to the discussion of systems engineering and Big Data to the ongoing fusion of the goods (i.e., manufacturing, construction, extraction and agriculture) and the services sectors that is reflected in the world-wide recognition and development of mass customized goods and services or servgoods. Big Data analytics, adaptive services, digital manufacturing, and the resultant mass customization are all components of the Third Industrial Revolution which has, in turn spawned the Internet of Things. The talk will introduce some fundamental thoughts about the management of emerging technologies; it will lead to a discussion of the benefits of Internet of Things that function in real-time, resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage to the industrialized countries where the consuming customers are at the same time the co-producing producers.

Dr. Tien is also an elected member of the U. S. National Academy of Engineering.
讲座题目二：Big Data Mining and Data Science
Big Data has become a reality that no one can ignore. Big Data is our environment whenever we need to make a decision. Big Data is a buzz word that makes everyone understands how important it is. Big Data shows a big opportunity for academia, industry and government. Big Data then is a big challenge for all parties. This talk will discuss some fundamental issues of Big Data problems, such as data heterogeneity vs. decision heterogeneity, data stream research and data-driven decision management. Furthermore, this talk will provide a number of real-life Big Data Applications. In the conclusion, the talk suggests a number of open research problems in Data Science, which is a growing field beyond Big Data.
